MALAYSIAN FOOTBALL KIT

Did you know that the latest Malaysian football kit, produced by Nike, is made out of recycled material(plastic)

That means 8 plastic bottles are recycled to manufacture 1 jersey

Nike going green.....

PIMPLES

This post may look out of the league, but as I am having an irritating time by having a pimples somewhere in my EAR, the pimple was more near to my brain then my hands, and it gave my brain the message to post this...

Is a kind of acne, and one of the many results of excess oil clogging the pores

Acne is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with
  • seborrhea (scaly red skin)
  • comedones (blackheads and whiteheads)
  • papules (pinheads)
  • pustules (pimples)
  • nodules (large papules)

mostly at the part of skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles
  • Face
  • Upper part of the chest
  • Back

How?

Inside the pore (small holes on skin) are sebaceous glands which produce sebum

When outer layer skin shed (as they do continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become 'glued' together by the sebum

Causes the blockage in the pore

More sebum produced builds up behind the blockage

Treatment

Over-the-counter medications
  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Salicylic acid
  • Antibacterial agents such as Triclosan

Prescription medication
  • Isotretinoin
  • Tetracyclines
  • Erythromycin

10 Natural Ways of Acne Treatment

  • Do not pick, press or rub pimples. These can increase the sebum production and rupture the membranes below skin

  • Wash face twice a day using a mild soap, however, don’t over-wash as it will stimulate to produce more sebum

  • Food allergy can cause very serious acne condition, avoid eating too much oily and spicy food

  • Drink more water every day “Eight glasses of water a day can keep acne away”

  • Do not wear makeup if possible. Makeup products can clog pores. Be sure to clean makeup brushes regularly and cleanse skin before sleep

  • Do not use oily products. Avoid products such as hair pomades, intense oil-based facial moisturizers, and oily cleansers

  • Keep the face clean. Do not rest the chin on hands or constantly touch the face

  • Exercise moderately as it helps in blood circulation and elimination of toxins

  • Stay stress-free. Studies have shown that stress not only worsens acne flare-up, it also worsens the overall skin condition

  • Get sunshine and fresh air. Sunshine stimulates vitamin D in the body, an essential vitamin for healthy skin. Fresh air and sunshine can also reduce stress (acne tip #9) and increase oxygen to the skin

Some Homemade remedies

  • Lemons and tomatoes

Cut into four pieces and take each piece of lemon or tomato and rub it on your face. You may have a little something left on your face. Just leave it there. It's for your own good. They will make pimples disappear almost overnight. It they don't disappear they will be smaller the next time you check

  • Don't pop that pimple right away
A mask of grated apple mixed with a little honey
applied to the skin for 15-20 minutes then washed off with warm water, followed by a cold rinse

  • Toothpaste
Apply a dab of toothpaste on the pimple overnight. You may need to test this on a short-term basis to make sure it doesn't irritate your pimple
Calamine lotion will have the same drying effect

SO BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR PIMPLES NEXT TIME. AND IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER HOMEMADE REMEDIES FOR THIS, DO PLACE IT IN THE COMMENT BOX. THANKS

DSLR CAMERA LENS

Owning a DSLR camera has always been a dream of mine. Not only me, some of my friends share this dream. and as requested by JeE Knows ThiS blog fan KANTH RAJ, who is my brother who also shares the dream of owning a DSLR camera 1 day, Iam posting about the lenses of these modern cameras.

Before that, What is SLR and DSLR?

SLR is single-lens reflex camera
DSLR digital single-lens reflex camera

Now to the lens

Also known as photographic lens, objective lens or photographic objective

is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used with a camera body to make images of objects capable of storing an image chemically or electronically

A lens may be permanently fixed to a camera, or it may be interchangeable with lenses of different focal lengths, apertures, and other properties

FOCAL LENGTH

The lens' focal length determines the magnification of the image projected onto the image plane
  • with a short focal length you have to be close to your subject for a close-up
  • with a long focal length you can be far away and still get a close-up

APERTURE

The aperture the light intensity of that image

Easily to say, aperture means the amount of light let in by the lens or the gap the lens has

These are the standard aperture scale

f/1.4     f/2.0     f/2.8     f/4.0     f/5.6     f/8.0     f/11      f/16      f/22      f/32

Smaller Aperture Number (2.8) = Wider Aperture = More Light

Larger Aperture Number (22) = Narrower Aperture = Less Light

Lenses are not interchangeable

A lens designed for a Nikon camera is not going to work on Canon camera and vice versa

The reason is that modern day lenses have an electronic connection with the digital SLR camera

This connection relays information from lens to camera such setting changes on the lens (like aperture) from the camera body itself

Types of DSLR lens

  • Standard Lenses

Traditionally on film cameras it was used to describe lenses in the 50mm range

Usually came with the camera

  • Kit Lenses

Offered as a package with the DSLR

Generally an entry level quality zoom lens

General purpose lens designed for everyday shooting

  • Prime Lenses

One focal length only

Are known especially at the top end for their image quality and speed faster aperture

  • Telephoto Zoom Lenses

Most popular DSLR

Benefits of zoom-do not need to physically get closer to subject

  • Macro Lenses

Specifically designed for shooting objects up close

  • Wide Angle Lenses

Enable users to take shots with a very wide perspective

Useful for landscapes

SWEET...ISN'T IT?? LET DREAM COME TRUE....LET A CANON DELIGHT YOU ALWAYS

PLASMA BALL

Plasma ball is something I always wanted to have. But I never got the idea to post about it until it was requested by JeE KnowS ThiS fan Jaded Mesh. So here you are bro.

Also known as
  • Plasma lamps
  • Plasma balls
  • Domes
  • Spheres
  • Tubes
  • Orbs

Is usually a clear glass orb filled with a mixture of various gases most commonly
  • Helium
  • Neon
  • Xenon
  • Krypton and other gases

A much smaller orb in its centre serves as an electrode

Plasma filaments extend from the inner electrode to the outer glass insulator, giving the appearance of multiple constant beams of colored light

Placing a hand near the glass alters the high-frequency electric field, causing a single beam to migrate from the inner ball to the point of contact

POTENTIAL HAZARDS

Placing electronic devices near or upon the plasma lamp, glass may become hot, and break

The radio frequency field produced by plasma lamps can interfere with the operation of

  • Touchpads used on laptop computers
  • Digital audio players
  • Cell phones
  • Cordless telephones and Wi-Fi devices several feet away

When a metal object is placed on the surface of a plasma lamp's glass, a danger of shock and burning exists

Possible (although difficult) to cause a minor burn to the finger by hovering the fingertip just above the surface of the glass

If the orb becomes wet or is covered in a metallic substance, such as a coin or tinfoil, arcs form outside the glass, easily causing burns

Ozone (no information could be attained regarding ozone, would be updated), which is harmful to humans, may also accumulate outside of the surface of the glass orb after a few minutes of constant operation

Plasma ball releases electromagnetic radiation which can interfere a person’s a pacemaker or other internal electrical medical device and should avoid contact

Application

Used as curiosities or toys for their unique lighting effects and the "tricks" that can be performed on them by moving the hands around them

A school's laboratory equipment for demonstration purposes

Are not usually employed for general lighting

However, some novelty stores have begun selling a nightlight plasma lamp that can fit into a standard light socket

HISTORY

Most popular in the 1980s

Was invented by Nikola Tesla after his experimentation with high-frequency

PETROLEUM

As I opened the Facebook page (just search Jee Knows This on facebook) for jeeknowsthis.blogspot.com, I opened up to the fans to chose the topic they want to know about. Jee Knows This fan, Kanth Raj requested to know more about petroleum. And this topic also suits the current issue in Malaysia, the hike of petroleum price.

Is also known as crude oil, is unprocessed oil

The word is from Greek: petra (rock) + Latin: oleum (oil)

Naturally derived from decaying plants and animals, crude oil is a fossil fuel

Made out of
  • Carbon
  • Hydrogen
  • Sulfur
  • Nitrogen
  • Oxygen
  • Metals
  • Salts

The main component of crude oil is hydrocarbon, which contains a lot of energy. Hence, crude oil is used in generating many forms of energy such as gasoline, diesel and other fuel oils

Is used as the unprocessed material for many chemical products such as pesticides, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals

Estimated that the present utilization of crude oil is about 90 million barrels per day

Fuels processed from petroleum
  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
  • Ethane and other short-chain alkanes
  • Gasoline (Petrol)
  • Diesel fuel (petrodiesel)
  • Kerosene
  • Jet fuel
  • Fuel oils

History

It was used in mortar, for coating walls and boat hulls, and as a fire weapon in defensive warfare

Native Americans used it in magic and medicine and in making paints

In 1815 several streets in Prague were lighted with petroleum lamps

Kerosene lamps soon replaced whale oil lamps and candles in general use

METABOLISM

I have been visiting the gym for the past week and metabolism has been in my mind since. And as requested by a JeeKnowsThis blog reader Vasanthi (who is also my cute sis), I got the idea for this post. Now Know This!!!

First in medical terms,

Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that happen in living organisms to maintain life

Allow organisms to
  • Grow
  • Reproduce
  • Maintain their structures
  • Respond to their environments

Divided into two categories

  • Catabolism breaks down organic matter, for example to harvest energy in cellular respiration
  • Anabolism uses energy to construct components of cells such as proteins and nucleic acid

Now in the words that I UNDERSTAND!!

Metabolism is the amount of energy (calories) body burns to maintain itself

Simple stuff such as eating, drinking, sleeping, cleaning, burns calories to keep you going

The better the metabolism rate of the body, the healthier you are

Body composition affects metabolism

Body composition means amount of muscle versus the amount of fat

People who are more muscular, exercise regularly with weights and aerobic (cardio-jogging) has a lower percentage of body fat and will have a higher metabolism

Person who does not exercise, will have fat stored in his body which means less muscle mass, which results in less calorie usage which results in low metabolism

How does metabolism help in losing the extra inches or Kg's you hate??

So to lose weight or be fit, the metabolism should be on the competent rate to the body

Metabolism differs to each individual

To increase metabolism, exercise is the best way

Exercise=High Muscle Mass=High Calorie Burn=High Metabolism which eventually means low fat

Best exercise is to do weight exercise such as dumbbell and bar exercises as these boost the growth of muscles which means high burning of calorie

Reduced eating or diet will not assist in metabolism rate, be eating healthily will help in losing weight

Slow metabolism does occur and the symptoms are fatigue, feeling cold, dry skin, constipation, a slow pulse and low blood pressure (can also be other medical conditions)

How to calculate your metabolism rate??

Basal Metabolic Rate is used

Just follow these calculations

Men: BMR = 66 + (13.7 X wt in kg) + (5 X ht in cm) - (6.8 X age in years)
Women: BMR = 655 + (9.6 X wt in kg) + (1.8 X ht in cm) - (4.7 X age in years)
Note: 1 inch = 2.54 cm.
1 kilogram = 2.2 lbs.

Example:
You are female
You are 30 yrs old
You are 5' 6 " tall (167.6 cm)
You weigh 120 lbs. (54.5 kilos)
Your BMR = 655 + 523 + 302 - 141 = 1339 calories/day
Now that you know your BMR, you can calculate TDEE by multiplying your BMR by your activity multiplier from the chart below:

Activity Multiplier
Sedentary = BMR X 1.2 (little or no exercise, desk job)
Lightly active = BMR X 1.375 (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk)
Mod. active = BMR X 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/wk)
Very active = BMR X 1.725 (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/wk)
Extr. active = BMR X 1.9 (hard daily exercise/sports & physical job or 2X day training, i.e marathon, contest etc.)

Example:
Your BMR is 1339 calories per day
Your activity level is moderately active (work out 3-4 times per week)
Your activity factor is 1.55
Your TDEE = 1.55 X 1339 = 2075 calories/day

Or just click BMR calculator

So do your calculation and start losing weight!!

TAXI

As I was driving back home, I was tailgating a taxi which gave me the idea for this post..enjoy...

Is also known as taxicab or cab

A type of vehicle hired with a driver, used by a single passenger or small group

The passenger can determine the getting in and getting off destination, not alike other public transportation

Four types of taxi:

  • hackney carriage
also known as public hire, hailed or street taxis, available for hire and reward and for hailing on street

  • private hire vehicles (PHVs)
also known as minicabs private hire, only available by pre-booking

  • taxibuses
operating on pre-set routes for hire and reward, multiple stops and multiple independent passengers

  • limousines
specialized vehicle licensed for operation by pre-booking.

History

Taxicab originated from the word taximeter cabriolet

Where the meter word means measure and cabriolet is a type of horse-drawn carriage

Vehicle

  • Automobiles
  • Human-powered vehicles as the rickshaw

  • Animal-powered vehicles as the Hansom cab

  • Boats as water taxies or gondolas

Taximeters existed in ancient Rome, where a mechanism that uses the cart's axle to release small balls

At the end of the trip, the passenger paid based on the number of  balls released

Taximeters mounted outside the cab, above the driver's side front wheel then relocated inside the taxi

Electronic meters were introduced in 1980

Some taxicabs display a small illuminated sign indicating if they are vacant

The sign would be hidden at the start of a trip and moved to the visible position at the end

Horse-drawn for-hire hackney carriage services began in 17th century

In the 19th century, Hansom cabs largely replaced the older designs because of their improved speed and safety

Gasoline-powered taxicabs began operating in Paris in 1899, in London in 1903, and in New York in 1907

The New York taxicabs were imported from France by Harry N. Allen and were the first person to paint his taxicabs yellow learning as yellow is the colour most easily seen from a distance

In the late 1940s, when two-way radios first appeared in taxicabs enabled taxicabs and dispatch offices to communicate and serve customers more efficiently

In the 1980s, when computer assisted dispatching was first introduced

So when you embark a taxi next time...i assure you know more about taxi then the driver....

ICE CREAM....

I had a good dinner at an Old Town White Coffee and had a nice rut beer float. So I hope you got the idea of where I got the idea of this post

Ice cream is a frozen dessert made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavors

Most varieties contain sugar, other sweeteners, artificial flavorings and colorings

This mixture is stirred slowly while cooling to prevent large ice crystals from forming; the result is a smoothly textured ice cream.

Is also known as
  • frozen custard
  • frozen yogurt
  • sorbet
  • gelato

Alternatives made from soy milk, rice milk, and goat milk are available for those who are lactose intolerant or have an allergy to dairy protein, or to avoid animal products

History

Persian Empire people would pour grape juice concentrate
over snow - in a bowl

The treat, widely made in Iran today, is called "faloodeh" or "paloodeh", and is made from starch
The BBC reports that a frozen mixture of milk and rice was used in China around 200 BC

The Roman Emperor Nero had ice brought from the mountains and combined with fruit toppings

In the sixteenth century, the Mughal emperors used relays of horsemen to bring ice from the Hindu Kush to Delhi, where it was used in fruit sorbets

The first recipe for flavoured ices in French appears in 1674

The earliest reference to ice cream given by the Oxford English Dictionary is from 1744

The 1751 edition of The Art of Cookery made Plain and Easy by Hannah Glasse features a recipe for ice cream

The ice cream sundae originated in the late 19th century

Some sources say that the sundae was invented to circumvent blue laws, which forbade serving sodas on Sunday

Both the ice cream cone and banana split became popular in the early 20th century

Several food vendors claimed to have invented the ice cream cone at the 1904

Baskin-Robbins made its 31 flavours "one for every day of the month"

The company now boasts that it has developed over 1000 varieties

so...mind for a scoop of ice????

BLOG

As I was thinking what to post today, I thought of posting about BLOG...da', for sure..as I realized that even though I have a blog, I only know very little about blogs...So lets look at what is blog all about.....

Defined as a shared on-line journal where people can post daily entries about their personal experiences and hobbies; "postings on a blog are usually in chronological order"

A blog is a type of website or part of a website

Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video

Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.

Some function as more personal online diaries.

A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media

Types of Blogs

  • Art blog
  • Photoblog
  • Video blogging
  • MP3 blog
  • Podcasting
  • Microblogging, featuring very short posts

As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112,000,000 blogs

Origins

The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of their personal lives.

Justin Hall, in 1994 is generally recognized as one of the earliest blogger

Dave Winer's Scripting News is one of the oldest and longest running weblog

Blog usage spread during 1999 and the years following

The Blog word was separated for the word weblog. WE-BLOG

Free blogs are available at www.blogspot.com, www.wordpress.com and www.blogger.com

 SO WHY WAIT? START BLOGGING
